  Abstract
Serious injury and death can occur when dealing with medical gases. These medical gas mix-ups have been an ongoing concern of both the FDA and JCACHO. When connections wouldn’t connect, personnel have circumvented built-in safety designs of medical gas containers and connections or have unintentionally administered the wrong gas to a patient rather than reading the label as they would have for traditional drugs.

To help avoid medical gas mix-ups, this video will teach everyone who administers, handles, purchases or receives medical gases why medical gases need to be treated as other prescription drugs, how to properly identify different medical gases, why you cannot rely on cylinder color alone, and proper storage and connections.

ACCOMPANYING THIS VIDEO:
- CGA SA-21, Hazards of Compressed Gas Cylinders in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Environment
- CGA TB-29, Use of Gaskets in High Pressure Medical Oxygen Cylinder Service
- Digital files of FDA Posters on Medical Gas Mix-ups
