CGA/GAWDA Acetylene and Liquefied Petroleum Gas Safety Seminar
June 5-6, 2018

Plant Tour: Carbide Industries LLC

As part of the seminar, you will have the opportunity to visit the Carbide Industries LLC acetylene plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

The tour will follow the process of carbide manufacturing.

  1. The tour begins with an overview of raw material handling
  2. View of the furnace and tapping area
  3. View of the control room
  4. Walk along the grillage area where the carbide cools
  5. Then on to the crushing plant where the two-ton chills of carbide are reduced to two inches and less
  6. The tour will end at the Pack where the carbide is sized, screened, and packed into various containers

The tour is approximately 60 minutes. The first tour will begin at 9:00 am. Tours will be conducted in groups of 10-15. Each group will proceed through stations located throughout the plant.

Note: Please wear clothing suitable for industrial plant facilities, including long pants and closed-toe shoes. Safety equipment will be provided as appropriate. No cameras or video equipment will be allowed.

The first shuttle to the plant will depart the hotel at 8:30 am, with a second shuttle departing the hotel at 9:30 am. The last shuttle will depart the plant at approximately 11:30 am. Lunch will be at the hotel.
