The coronavirus threat is impacting all of us in a variety of ways. This week, we received numerous cancellations from speakers and attendees who were planning to participate in next week’s CGA Specialty Gases Technical & Safety Seminar.

At CGA, the health and welfare of our members and our staff is of the utmost importance. In light of this, and to ensure that all attendees are able to benefit from all of the presentations planned for this event, we have rescheduled the 2020 Specialty Gases Technical & Safety Seminar to November 10 -11, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency Houston. The Specialty Gases Committee meeting will also be held in conjunction with the seminar on November 12, 2020.

If you have registered for this event, CGA will hold your seminar registration and/or exhibit reservation for the fall or you may request a refund by emailing Jana Hollis. If you have not requested a refund by April 10, 2020 your fee will be applied to the rescheduled seminar.

Please make sure to cancel your hotel reservation with Hyatt Regency Houston by 3pm 48 hours prior to your scheduled arrival date to avoid any room charges.

Seminar Program Highlights

This seminar is open to CGA members and members of affiliated associations.

This event provides a forum for industry members to meet, raise, and discuss issues specific to specialty gases and affords an opportunity to share experiences and communicate lessons learned that will further develop personnel, skills, and knowledge.

This year’s seminar will feature a keynote speaker from the Channel Industry Mutual Aid (CIMA), a nonprofit organization combining the fire-fighting, rescue, hazardous material handling and emergency medical capabilities of the refining and petrochemical industry in the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area. Since 1955, this organization has been providing cooperative assistance and expertise for all kinds of emergencies – both natural and man-made.

The seminar will also include a site tour of SET Environmental, Inc., a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Part B Permitted Facility located in Houston, Texas. SET focuses on the treatment and disposal of cylinders and ton units containing electronic gas and gas mixtures (toxics, corrosives, oxidizing, flammable) as well as industrial gases. SET also provides Asset Drain and Return (ADR) services as well as salvage cylinder retesting and refurbishment services.

Industry experts will deliver technical presentations on the following topics:

  • Disposal/remediation
  • Packaged gases
  • Hydrogen for fuel cell standards
  • Cylinder reciprocity agreements
  • Specialty gases in cannabis production
  • Incidents/accidents and near misses
  • Other important aspects of safe handling of specialty gases

Registration Fees

Registration fees are per person, in U.S. dollars. The early registration fee applies for all registrations received through February 10, 2020; all registrations received on or after February 11 will be charged the regular registration fee.

Cancellation/Substitution Policy

A written cancellation is required. All registration cancellations, changes, and requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received by CGA on or before February 25, 2020. Refunds are subject to a $50 (USD) processing fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after the deadline for any reason. Refunds are processed after the seminar.

You may transfer your full registration to another employee of your organization, provided you notify CGA in writing. Substitutes are only allowed for the full seminar and are not allowed on a daily basis.

The CGA group rate for this event is $160.00 (USD) per night for a standard single/double, plus applicable taxes (currently 17%, subject to change).

Reservations must be received on or before February 10, 2020. After this date the hotel will accept reservations at the hotel’s prevailing rate on a space available basis.

A credit card or advance deposit equal to one night’s room and tax is required to guarantee your reservation. One night’s room and tax will be charged if the guest cancels after 3pm 48 hours prior to arrival date.

Please Note: CGA has contracted with the meeting hotel to set aside a block of rooms at this rate for meeting registrants. CGA is contractually obligated to fill this room block and may be exposed to significant financial liability should our members fail to support this room block.

Air Transportation

William P. Hobby International Airport is approximately 11 miles from the hotel.  The airport is served by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Southwest Airlines.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport is approximately 22 miles from the hotel. The airport is served by major airlines, including Air Canada, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, United, British Airways, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Spirit Airlines, and WestJet.


Ground Transportation

The hotel does not provide airport shuttle service to either Hobby Airport or Bush Intercontinental Airport. The hotel does have a complimentary shuttle that services the immediate downtown area.

The Greenlink bus is free, and the nearest stop is directly across the street from the hotel. The bus comes every five minutes and stops at 18 points throughout downtown Houston.

METROrail Red Line
The closest stop is Main Street Square, just three blocks away from the hotel. Its downtown Houston destinations include the Museum District, Hermann Park, Houston Zoo, Texas Medical Center, and NRG Park.

Hobby International Airport

Taxi fare is approximately $30 each way. Rates are based per trip, not per person. Most taxis can accommodate up to three passengers. Taxi services can be accessed by following signs to “Ground Transportation” in Curb Zone 2. Ride sharing services can be accessed in Curb Zone 5.

Car rental agencies located at the airport include Alamo, AVIS, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty. To pick-up your vehicle from the Airport, please proceed to Curb Zone 1 outside the Baggage Claim/Arrivals level.

Driving directions from Hobby:

Take I-45 N and exit Scott Street onto St. Joseph Parkway. Turn right on Louisiana Street. Proceed to Polk. Turn left at Polk. Enter motor lobby located on the right at the corner of Louisiana and Polk.

Bush Intercontinental Airport

Taxi fare is approximately $60 each way. Rates are based per trip, not per person. Most taxis can accommodate up to three passengers. Taxi services and ride sharing services can be accessed outside Baggage Claim/Arrivals level, Terminals A, B, C, and E.

Car rental agencies located at the airport include Advantage, Alamo, AVIS, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, Thrifty, and Zipcar. To pick-up your vehicle from the Airport, please take the Rental Car Center shuttle, which departs every five minutes from the outside Baggage Claim/Arrivals, Terminal A, B, C and E between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm and every ten minutes between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am.

Driving directions from Bush Intercontinental:

Continue on Hardy Toll Rd. Take I-45 S to N Milam St. Take exit 48A from I-45 S. Follow N Milam St to Louisiana St, where you’ll see the hotel entrance.

Valet parking for 0-10 hours is $25 + tax

What to Wear

The dress code for CGA meetings is business casual; coat and tie are optional. Meetings and events will be in air-conditioned meeting space. It is recommended that you bring a jacket or sweater.

For the tour: Please wear clothing suitable for industrial plant facilities, including long pants and closed-toe sensible shoes. Safety glasses and other safety equipment will be provided as appropriate. No cameras, audio recording, or video equipment allowed.
