CGA’s October 2019 Safety Publications (New Releases & Revisions)

November 12, 2019

During October 2019, the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) issued the following revised safety standards:

CGA C-6.2 – Standard for Visual Inspection and Requalification of Fiber Reinforced High Pressure Cylinders

Released: October 1, 2019 (8th Edition)
Special Attribute: Referenced by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

Composite high pressure cylinders have been in commercial use since 1976. Several million composite cylinders are currently in service.

This standard addresses the techniques for the inspection and requalification of composite overwrapped high pressure cylinders. The use of this standard is required in the United States by Title 49 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR) Part 180.205(f)(1), and in Canada by CSA B339, Clause 24.

The requalification consists primarily of an internal and external visual inspection followed by hydrostatic testing. This standard highlights those items that are essential for an accurate appraisal of a composite overwrapped cylinder for compressed gas service.

CGA G-4.7 – Stationary, Electric-Motor-Driven, Centrifugal Liquid Oxygen Pumps

Released: October 17, 2019 (5th Edition)
Special Attribute: Harmonized publication

Provides a reference for those specifying stationary, electric-motor-driven, centrifugal liquid oxygen pump designs and installations, and serves as a guide for the operation and maintenance of this equipment. Applies to those pumps operating on liquids containing greater than 95% oxygen.

This publication furnishes qualified technical personnel with technical information to use in designing new liquid oxygen pump installations. It includes considerations that will enhance the safe and reliable operation of liquid oxygen pumps.
