CGACB Expands Offerings to 3 Certifications for Bulk Compressed Medical Gas Supply Systems

October 15, 2020

In April 2018, the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) formed the CGA Certification Board LLC (CGACB) to offer certification services for personnel working in the industrial and medical gases industry.

CGACB’s mission is to provide third-party personnel certification programs developed by subject matter experts and based on key standards from the Compressed Gas Association. While the organization borrows part of its name from CGA, the CGACB remains a separate entity. As an independent third-party certifier, CGACB focuses on assessing the qualifications and competency of certification candidates.

CGACB recently expanded its offerings, which now include 3 certifications for bulk compressed medical gas (CMG) supply systems:

  • CGA M-1 & ASSE 6015 Dual Certification for bulk CMG supply system installers
  • ASSE 6035 Certification for bulk CMG supply system verifiers
  • ASSE 6055 Certification for bulk CMG supply system instructors

In addition, CGACB now offers video-proctored exams that can be taken from the convenience of an applicant’s computer.

In the future, the CGA Certification Board plans to develop additional certification programs. More information will be provided as those certifications become available.

ASSE International is an ANSI-accredited standards developer and product certification body composed of members representing all disciplines of the plumbing and mechanical industries. ASSE’s product performance standards, professional qualifications standards, professional certification, and product certification programs aim to improve the performance and safety of plumbing and mechanical systems.

CGACB Certifications on Compressed Medical Gas Supply Systems

We provide below a brief overview of the 3 CMG certifications currently available through CGACB.

CGA M-1 & ASSE 6015 Dual Certification for Bulk Compressed Medical Gas Supply System Installers

The CGA M-1 & ASSE 6015 dual certification exam provides a comprehensive evaluation of a candidate’s knowledge of the process of designing, locating, installing, commissioning, maintaining, testing, removing, and documenting work on a bulk compressed medical gas supply system.

This certification exam was developed in accordance with CGA M-1, Standard for Medical Gas Supply Systems at Health Care Facilities (an American National Standard); ASSE 6015, Bulk Medical Gas / Cryogenic Fluid Central Supply Systems Installers; and requirements from applicable national regulations (29 CFR 210 and 211) and model codes (National Fire Protection Association NFPA 55, Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code and NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code).

ASSE 6035 Certification for Bulk Compressed Medical Gas Supply System Verifiers

The ASSE 6035 certification exam provides a comprehensive evaluation of a candidate’s knowledge of the process of testing and verifying the operation of a bulk compressed medical gas supply system in accordance with ASSE 6035, Bulk Medical Gas / Cryogenic Fluid Central Supply Systems Verifiers and requirements from applicable national regulations and model codes.

ASSE 6055 Certification for Bulk Compressed Medical Gas Supply System Instructors

The ASSE 6055 certification exam provides a comprehensive evaluation of a candidate’s knowledge of the process of training or testing personnel in accordance with ASME 6055, Bulk Medical Gas / Cryogenic Fluid Central Supply Systems Instructors, as well as requirements from applicable national regulations and model codes.

Instructors who possess an ASSE 6055 certification can train personnel to obtain certification for the following work:

  • designing, locating, installing, commissioning, maintaining, testing, removing, and documenting work on a bulk CMG supply system in accordance with CGA M-1 and ASSE 6015
  • testing and verifying the operation of a bulk compressed medical gas supply system in accordance with ASSE 6035
  • training or testing personnel in accordance with ASSE 6055
