ISO Meeting (ISO/TC 58/SC 4 – Operational Requirements for Gas Cylinders) February 2019 Recap

An ISO group of interest to the Compressed Gas Association held its plenary meeting during the week of February 11, 2019. This event, and the related working groups (WGs), took place at the offices of Ente Nazionale Italiano di Unificazione (UNI) in Milan, Italy.
ISO/TC 58/SC 4, Operational requirements for gas cylinders
This ISO group held its annual plenary on Thursday, February 14,. Delegates from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States participated. Representatives from the European Cylinder Makers Association (ECMA), the European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA), the World LP Gas Association (WLPGA), and Liquid Gas Europe were also in attendance, as well as ISO.
ISO/TC 58/SC 4 is responsible for developing International Standards on operational requirements, including filling conditions, inspections at time of fill, periodic inspections, cylinder identification, and specific applications.
The next ISO/TC 58/SC 4 plenary meeting will be hosted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and CGA and will take place during the week of February 10, 2020, in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas, area.
Related Working Group Meetings
In conjunction with the SC 4 meeting, four working groups (WGs) met to continue their efforts to develop or revise ISO deliverables:
- ISO/TC 58/SC 4/WG 19, Inspection of tubes and frames – this new WG held its first meeting on Monday, February 11
- ISO/TC 58/SC 4/WG 18, Acoustic emission testing for composite cylinders – this new WG held its first meeting, followed by a meeting of ISO/TC 58/SC 4 WG 17, Pressure drums, on Tuesday, February 12
- ISO/TC 58/SC 4/WG 10, Inspection and testing of composite cylinders – this WG, which was reactivated to revise its ISO document, met on Wednesday, February 13
- ISO/TC 58/SC 4/WG 8, Gas cylinder bundles – met on Friday, February 15
Upcoming ISO Meetings in 2019
ISO/TC 220, Cryogenic vessels, and its WGs will hold meetings on June 3-6, at the offices of the Association française de normalisation (AFNOR) in Paris, France.
The next ISO/TC 58/SC 2 plenary and related WG meetings will be held during the week of September 30 in Canada. ISO/TC 58 will hold its biennial plenary following the SC 2 plenary.
ISO/TC 158, Analysis of gases, will hold WG meetings and its next biennial meeting during the week of October 14, in Chengdu, China.
The next ISO/TC 58/SC 3, Cylinder design, plenary and related WG meetings are tentatively scheduled during the week of October 21, in Hangzhou, China.
ISO/TC 197, Hydrogen technologies, will hold WG meetings and its annual meeting during the week of December 9, in France.
