U.S. Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) are committees accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) that determine the U.S. position on ISO draft international standards, draft technical reports, committee drafts, ISO questionnaires, draft reports of meeting, and any other related ISO document. CGA members participate on these U.S. TAGs by providing U.S. representation to ISO Committee meetings and by serving as head of delegation and members of delegations.
CGA currently administers 8 U.S. TAGs:
- ISO/TC 58, Gas cylinders
- ISO/TC 58/SC 2, Cylinder fittings
- ISO/TC 58/SC 3, Cylinder design
- ISO/TC 58/SC 4, Operational requirements for gas cylinders
- ISO/TC 158, Analysis of gases
- ISO/TC 197, Hydrogen technologies
- ISO/TC 197/SC 1, Hydrogen at scale and horizontal energy systems
- ISO/TC 220, Cryogenic vessels
CGA and its members participated in six plenary meetings in 2024 with 2 more plenary meetings to be held before the end of the year.
ISO/TC 58/SC 4
ISO/TC 58/SC 4 held its annual plenary meeting on February 8, 2024 at the Deutsches Institut für Normung e. V. (DIN) in Berlin, Germany. Delegates from France, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, Japan, Canada, Sweden, Norway, and Italy as well as representatives from European Cylinder Makers Association (ECMA), European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA), World Liquid Gas Association, and ISO/TC 58 were in attendance. In conjunction with the SC 4 meeting, three working groups met to continue their work to develop or revise ISO deliverables:
- ISO/TC 58/SC 4/WG 6, Cylinder identification met on February 6;
- ISO/TC 58/SC 4/WG 15, MAE Examination for composite cylinders met on February 5; and
- ISO/TC 58/SC 4/WG 19, Inspection of tubes and frames met on February 6.
The ISO/TC 58 biennial meeting was held on February 9, 2024, in conjunction with the ISO/TC 58/SC 4 annual plenary meeting.
ISO/TC 58/SC 2
ISO/TC 58/SC 2 held its annual plenary meeting on October 10 and 11, at the offices of Czech Standardization Agency in Prague, Czech Republic. In conjunction with the SC 2 meeting, two working groups met to continue their work to develop or revise ISO deliverables:
- ISO/TC 58/SC 2/WG 6, Gas cylinder valves—Specifications and testing, met October 8 & 9;
- ISO/TC 58/SC 2/WG 7, Compatibility between gases and materials met on October 9; and
- ISO/TC 58/SC 2/WG 11, Allocations of valve outlets, met on October 10.
ISO/TC 58/SC 3
ISO/TC 58/SC 3 held its annual plenary meeting on October 23 and 24 at Linde offices in Pullach, Germany. Delegates from Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, and United States, as well as representatives from ECMA, Liquid Gas Europe, and ISO/TC 58 were in attendance.
ISO/TC 158
ISO/TC 158 held its annual plenary on October 17, 2024, in Hangzhou, China. Delegates from Sweden, United States, South Africa, China, France, Germany, Ukraine, Russian Federation, Republic of Korea, United Kingdom, and Netherlands were in attendance.
ISO/TC 220
ISO/TC 220 held its annual plenary on June 12, 2024, at DIN offices in Berlin, Germany. Delegates from China, France, Germany, Japan, Republic of South Korea, Russia, United Kingdom and United States were in attendance. In conjunction with the TC 220 meeting, two working groups met to continue their work to develop or revise ISO deliverables:
- ISO/TC 220/WG 1, Design and construction, met on June 11; and
- ISO/TC 220/WG 3, Supporting standards also met on June 11.
Upcoming ISO meetings:
- The annual plenary meetings for ISO TC 197 and ISO TC 197/SC 1 as well as working group meetings will be hosted by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standard (KATS) in Seoul, Republic of Korea, the week of December 9-13, 2024.
- The next ISO/TC 58/SC 4 plenary meeting will be held during the week of February 17-20, 2025, at DIN offices in Berlin, Germany.
- The next ISO/TC 58/SC 2 plenary meeting is tentatively scheduled for the week of October 6-10, 2025 in Stockholm, Sweden.
- The next ISO/TC 220 plenary meeting will be held on June 26, 2025, with the WG 1 meeting taking place on June 25, 2025. The location of the meeting is still being confirmed.
