The Compressed Gas Association is closely monitoring developments in Qatar and the surrounding region for any potential impacts on global helium supply. Qatar is a major supplier of helium to the world market, and recent damage at Ras Laffan and to two QatarEnergy LNG trains has added strain to an already sensitive global supply chain. The extent and duration of disruptions will depend largely on repair timelines, operational restart schedules, and broader transportation conditions in the region.
“At a time like this, our focus is on facts, safety, and supply continuity,” said Rich Gottwald, President and CEO of the Compressed Gas Association. “Qatar plays an important role in the global helium market, so disruptions there are being watched carefully across many industries that rely on helium for critical applications. While the situation remains fluid, we are continuing to monitor developments closely and, at this time, we have not heard of disruptions to helium availability in the United States.”
Helium is a critical industrial gas used in a range of essential applications, including semiconductor manufacturing, medical imaging, scientific research, aerospace, and other advanced technologies. As the situation evolves, CGA will continue to monitor conditions and share relevant information as appropriate.
