CGA – 2021 Year in Review

January 27, 2022

In keeping with our tradition as we move into a new year, we want to again take stock of the year we leave behind, reviewing the progress we have made in 2021 to advance our safety mission.

The Compressed Gas Association launched a major initiative in 2021 to bring added focus to hydrogen safety, including rolling out the “Safety is Step One” hydrogen communications campaign to ensure that safety is at the forefront of conversations around emerging hydrogen applications; accelerating hydrogen standards development to address unique safety considerations related to hydrogen; and establishing relationships with key hydrogen stakeholders, such as the California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP) and the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA).

In 2021, CGA also continued efforts to address the shifting pressures created by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as coordinating with members and external stakeholders to respond to surging demands for medical oxygen, representing the industry in discussions with government agencies in the U.S. and Canada, and surveying members to benchmark the industry’s best practices for COVID-19 mitigation efforts.

Once again, we partnered with the Gases and Welding Distributors Association (GAWDA) to co-host a second year of the Young and Emerging Professionals Summit – an immensely successful series of 8 online events that drew industry participants from around the globe. Our CGAConnect series of events in 2021 also included our first-ever hybrid offering of the long-running CGA Safety & Reliability of Industrial Gases, Equipment, and Facilities Seminar, as well as the return of the CGA Cylinder Requalification Operations Safety Seminar as an all-virtual event.

In 2021, we further expanded our outreach to end users to promote the safe use of industry products, providing basic safety information on refrigerated and cryogenic liquids, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, flammable gases, and cylinders and containers for the cannabis, cryosauna, and other industries.

The Year in Review infographic below provides a snapshot of all that we accomplished together with our members in 2021.

Thank you to all CGA member companies and your employees for your continued support of the Association and the work that we do together.
