Latest “Safety is Step One” Hydrogen Safety Video

Vent Stack Safety and Standards

AUGUST 11, 2022

Hydrogen is the most abundant gas in the world. However, hydrogen has unique properties that make safely handling it extremely important.

For example, hydrogen has a wide flammability range and a very low ignition energy. For these reasons, any release of hydrogen to the atmosphere may ignite. Discharges of gaseous hydrogen must be released to the atmosphere through an engineered vent system at a sufficient height so that the radiant heat will not harm people or property.

We invite you to learn more about these engineered vent systems by watching our latest video and sharing among your peers.

Founded in 1913, the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) is dedicated to the development and promotion of safety standards and safe practices in the industrial, medical, and food gases industry. CGA represents more than 110 member companies including manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, and transporters of gases, cryogenic liquids, and related products and services. Through a committee system, CGA develops technical specifications, safety standards, and training and educational materials, and works with government agencies to formulate and promote compliance with responsible regulations and standards.
